To start the Stihl MS 015, first ensure the chain brake is engaged. Set the control lever to choke position if the engine is cold. Pull the starter rope until the engine fires briefly, then move the control lever to the run position and pull the starter rope again until the engine starts.
The correct fuel mixture for the Stihl MS 015 is 50:1, which means you should mix 2.6 ounces of high-quality 2-stroke oil with 1 gallon of unleaded gasoline.
You should clean the air filter after every 10 hours of operation or more frequently if operating in dusty conditions. Remove the filter cover, take out the air filter, and clean it with warm soapy water. Dry it thoroughly before reinstalling.
If your chainsaw won't start, check for common issues such as empty fuel tank, old or improperly mixed fuel, spark plug issues, or a clogged air filter. Replace or fix any faulty components and ensure the choke is set correctly.
To tension the chain, first loosen the bar nuts slightly. Turn the tensioning screw clockwise until the chain is snug against the guide bar, but still able to be pulled along the bar by hand. Finally, tighten the bar nuts securely.
If your chainsaw is running rough or stalling, check for a dirty air filter, clogged fuel filter, or spark plug issues. Clean or replace these components as needed. Additionally, ensure the carburetor is properly adjusted.
To sharpen the chain, secure the chainsaw and use a round file that matches the chain's pitch. File each cutter with a consistent angle and number of strokes, then check the depth gauges and file them as necessary.
Use high-quality bar and chain oil specifically designed for chainsaws to ensure proper lubrication. In cold conditions, consider using winter-grade oil to prevent thickening.
Prevent overheating by keeping the air intake and cooling fins clean and free of debris. Regularly inspect and clean the chainsaw’s components, and ensure you are using the correct fuel mixture.
Follow a regular maintenance schedule by checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting and replacing the spark plug if necessary, checking chain tension, and cleaning the guide bar after every use. Annually, inspect the fuel system and replace any worn parts.
