To start the Stihl KM 94 R, place the unit on a flat surface. Ensure the stop switch is in the "I" position. Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible. Set the choke lever to the cold start position, then pull the starter cord until the engine fires. Move the choke to the run position and pull the starter cord again until the engine starts.
If the engine won't start, check if there is sufficient fuel and that it's fresh. Inspect the spark plug for fouling and ensure the air filter is clean. Make sure the stop switch is in the correct position and that the choke is set properly for starting conditions.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 25 hours of operation or sooner if you are working in extremely dusty conditions. Use warm soapy water to wash the filter, rinse it thoroughly, let it dry, and then lightly oil it before reinstalling.
The Stihl KM 94 R requires a 50:1 fuel mixture of unleaded gasoline and high-quality 2-stroke engine oil. Always use fresh fuel and mix it in an approved fuel container.
To replace the trimmer line, switch off the engine and ensure it is cool. Remove the spool from the head, then take out any remaining line. Cut two lengths of line, feed them into the spool, and wind them evenly. Replace the spool back into the head, ensuring the lines are properly threaded through the eyelets.
Regular maintenance includes checking the air filter, inspecting and cleaning the spark plug, checking the fuel system for leaks, inspecting the drive shaft and gearbox, and ensuring all safety features are functional. Refer to the manual for specific intervals.
Engine stalling can be caused by a dirty air filter, old fuel, or a clogged fuel line. Ensure the air filter is clean, use fresh fuel, and inspect the fuel line for obstructions. If the problem persists, the carburetor may need adjustment.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor. With the engine running, turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it until the engine runs smoothly at idle without stalling.
Always wear appropriate protective gear, such as eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear. Be aware of your surroundings and keep a safe distance from others. Operate the tool according to the instructions in the manual and ensure all safety features are in place and functional.
For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the unit thoroughly, inspect it for any needed repairs, and store it in a dry, secure place. It's also advisable to remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder to prevent corrosion.
