To start the Stihl KM 91 R, ensure the machine is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the cold start position, press the fuel pump bulb until you see fuel, and pull the starter grip slowly until you feel resistance, then pull quickly. Once the engine starts, move the choke lever to the run position.
The Stihl KM 91 R requires a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline and STIHL two-stroke engine oil. Ensure the gasoline has an octane rating of at least 89.
Clean the air filter after every 25 hours of operation or sooner if you notice a decrease in engine power. Use warm soapy water, rinse, let it dry, and apply a small amount of air filter oil before reinstalling.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel supply, ensure the spark plug is clean and functioning, and verify that the air filter is not clogged. Make sure the choke is set correctly and the fuel is fresh.
To replace the spark plug, first ensure the engine is cool. Remove the spark plug boot, use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug, and replace it with a new one recommended by Stihl. Reattach the spark plug boot securely.
It is recommended to use only genuine Stihl attachments with the KM 91 R to ensure compatibility and optimal performance. Using non-Stihl attachments may void the warranty and cause damage to the unit.
Before storing, clean the unit thoroughly, drain the fuel tank, and run the engine until it stops to clear any remaining fuel. Store the unit in a dry, clean area away from direct sunlight.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, lubricating the gearbox, checking the fuel system for leaks, and cleaning the cooling air intakes.
To improve performance, use fresh, high-quality fuel, regularly clean or replace the air filter, ensure the spark plug is in good condition, and follow all recommended maintenance schedules.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection. Be aware of your surroundings to avoid hazards, and never operate the unit indoors or in poorly ventilated areas.
