Stihl HT Instruction Manual

To start your Stihl HT pole pruner, first ensure the stop switch is in the 'on' position. Then, press the fuel pump bulb at least 5 times. Set the choke lever to the choke position. Pull the starter cord until the engine fires briefly, then move the choke lever to the run position and pull the starter cord again until the engine starts.
If your Stihl HT won't start, check the fuel to ensure it's fresh and properly mixed. Inspect the spark plug for wear and clean or replace it if necessary. Make sure the air filter is clean and not clogged. Verify that the stop switch is set to 'on' and that the choke is used correctly.
Regularly check the chain tension and adjust it as needed. Sharpen the chain using a round file or a sharpening tool according to the manufacturer's instructions. Keep the chain lubricated to ensure smooth operation. Replace the chain if it's damaged or excessively worn.
Use a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to STIHL 2-cycle engine oil. Ensure that the gasoline has an octane rating of at least 89 and contains no more than 10% ethanol. Proper mixing in a certified fuel container is essential for optimal performance.
To clean the air filter, remove the filter cover and take out the air filter. Wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely. Reinstall the dry filter and secure the cover. Replace the filter if it's damaged or heavily soiled.
If the chain is not cutting properly, check if it's dull and needs sharpening. Ensure that the chain tension is correct and that it's not too tight or too loose. Verify that the chain is installed properly, and inspect for any damage or wear. Replace the chain if necessary.
For off-season storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the exterior and inspect for any damage. Store the pruner in a dry, dust-free place, ideally in its original box or a protective case.
Running rough or stalling can be due to a dirty air filter, old fuel, or a fouled spark plug. Clean or replace the air filter, use fresh fuel, and inspect the spark plug for wear, replacing it if necessary. Adjust the carburetor settings if performance issues persist.
Replace the spark plug every 100 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first. Regular inspection and cleaning can extend its life, but replacement ensures optimal engine performance and starting reliability.
To adjust the chain tension, turn off the engine and ensure the chain is cool. Loosen the bar nuts slightly and turn the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the guide bar. Tighten the bar nuts securely while holding the bar nose up.
