To start the Stihl HS 87, ensure the ignition switch is on, set the choke lever to the closed position, and press the fuel pump bulb several times. Pull the starter cord until the engine fires, then move the choke to the open position and pull again until the engine runs.
Use a high-quality 89 octane unleaded gasoline mixed with Stihl two-cycle engine oil at a ratio of 50:1. Always mix the fuel in a separate container before adding it to the hedge trimmer.
The blades should be sharpened after approximately every 50 hours of use or whenever you notice a decrease in cutting performance. Use a flat file to sharpen the blades evenly on both sides.
Check the fuel level and ensure the mixture is correct. Verify that the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Inspect the air filter for blockages and clean or replace it if necessary.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. Wash it with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and let it dry completely before reinstalling. If the filter is damaged, replace it with a new one.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, sharpening the blades, checking the fuel filter, and lubricating the gearbox. Always refer to the user manual for detailed instructions.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug boot and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install a new spark plug, ensuring it is properly gapped, and reconnect the boot.
Always wear protective gear, including gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection. Ensure the work area is clear of obstacles and bystanders. Keep a firm grip on the hedge trimmer and be aware of the blade's position at all times.
Clean the hedge trimmer thoroughly, empty the fuel tank, and store it in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Cover the blades to prevent accidental contact and rust formation.
Inspect the blades for damage or imbalance and ensure all screws and bolts are tightened securely. Check the anti-vibration mounts for wear and replace them if necessary.
