To start the Stihl HS 86, ensure the trimmer is on a flat surface. Switch the ignition to "on," set the choke, and press the primer bulb several times. Pull the starter cord until the engine fires. Once started, move the choke to the run position.
The Stihl HS 86 requires a 50:1 gasoline to oil mix. Use high-quality 89 octane unleaded gasoline mixed with Stihl two-stroke engine oil.
It is recommended to sharpen the blades of the Stihl HS 86 after every 50 hours of operation or whenever you notice a decrease in cutting performance.
If the Stihl HS 86 won't start, check for fuel, ensure the spark plug is clean and functional, and verify that the air filter is not clogged. Also, confirm the choke is set correctly.
To clean the air filter on your Stihl HS 86, remove the filter cover, take out the filter, and wash it with warm soapy water. Rinse and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
The blade tension on the Stihl HS 86 should be adjusted so that the blades move freely without being too loose. Use the tension adjustment screws to achieve the correct tension.
To store the Stihl HS 86 during the off-season, empty the fuel tank, clean the blades and the entire unit, and store it in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Regular maintenance for the Stihl HS 86 includes cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, lubricating the blades, and inspecting the fuel system for leaks.
Excessive vibration in the Stihl HS 86 could be due to loose blades or screws, unbalanced blades, or worn-out bushings. Inspect and tighten all components as needed.
To improve the cutting performance of your Stihl HS 86, ensure the blades are sharp and properly tensioned. Regularly clean off any sap or residue and maintain the engine according to the operator's manual.
