To start the Stihl HS 75 or HS 80 hedge trimmer, first ensure the stop switch is in the 'I' position. Set the choke lever to the closed position if the engine is cold. Pull the starter rope until you feel resistance, then give it a brisk pull. Once the engine starts, open the choke gradually.
The recommended fuel mixture for Stihl HS 75 and HS 80 hedge trimmers is a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to Stihl two-stroke engine oil. Ensure the gasoline has an octane rating of at least 89.
Blades should be sharpened every 50 hours of use or whenever they become dull. Regular sharpening ensures efficient cutting and reduces strain on the motor.
Check the fuel mixture, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, verify the air filter is clean, and ensure the stop switch is in the 'I' position. If the problem persists, consult a professional technician.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting and tightening any loose screws or bolts, cleaning the cooling fins, and lubricating the gearbox. Perform these tasks every 25 hours of operation or monthly.
To replace the spark plug, first disconnect the spark plug boot. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Install a new spark plug with the correct gap setting (0.5 mm) and hand-tighten it before securing it with the wrench. Reattach the spark plug boot.
Overheating can be caused by a dirty air filter, clogged cooling fins, or an improper fuel mixture. Clean or replace the air filter, clean the cooling fins, and ensure the correct fuel mixture is used.
Adjust the carburetor by turning the L and H screws to set the idle and high-speed settings. Start the engine and let it warm up. Adjust the L screw for smooth idling and the H screw for optimal performance at full throttle.
It is recommended to use fuel with no more than 10% ethanol content. Higher ethanol content can damage the engine components and affect performance. Always use fresh fuel to avoid issues.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, and clean it with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the air filter if it is excessively dirty or damaged.
