To start the Stihl HS 46/56, ensure the trimmer is on a flat surface. Move the stop switch to the 'On' position, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, set the choke lever to the cold start position, and pull the starter cord until the engine fires. Then, move the choke to the run position and pull the starter cord again to start the engine.
The Stihl HS 46/56 requires a fuel mixture of 50:1 (2%) of unleaded gasoline to Stihl two-stroke engine oil. Make sure to use clean, fresh fuel and oil to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
The blades should be sharpened whenever you notice a decline in cutting performance or after every 50 hours of operation. Regular maintenance ensures effective cutting and prolongs the life of the blades.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Verify that the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Also, inspect the air filter for dirt and replace it if necessary. Ensure the choke and throttle are set correctly for starting.
To clean the air filter, remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and clean it with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the filter if it is damaged or heavily soiled.
Regular maintenance includes checking the air filter and spark plug every 25 hours of operation, sharpening the blades every 50 hours, and inspecting the fuel system for leaks and wear periodically. Replace parts as necessary and consult the user manual for detailed guidance.
Ensure that the anti-vibration mounts are intact and not worn. Check that the blades are sharp and properly balanced. Holding the trimmer with both hands and maintaining a steady grip can also help reduce perceived vibration during operation.
Inspect the fuel lines and tank for cracks or damage. Make sure the fuel cap is tightly closed. If leaks persist, replace any damaged components and consult a professional if needed.
To store your trimmer, clean the blades and housing, empty the fuel tank, and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Store the trimmer in a dry, secure place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
A rough-running engine may be due to a clogged air filter, dirty spark plug, or incorrect fuel mixture. Clean or replace the air filter, inspect the spark plug, and ensure the fuel mixture is correct to resolve the issue.
