To start the Stihl HS 45, ensure the choke is engaged, the ignition switch is on, and the fuel tank is filled. Pull the starter cord until the engine fires, then disengage the choke and pull again to start.
The Stihl HS 45 requires a 50:1 fuel mixture of unleaded gasoline and high-quality 2-stroke engine oil.
To sharpen the blades, disconnect the spark plug and secure the trimmer. Use a flat file to sharpen each tooth at a 45-degree angle, maintaining even pressure and consistent strokes.
Check the fuel level, spark plug, and air filter. Ensure the choke is engaged and the ignition switch is on. If the engine still won't start, inspect for fuel blockages or carburetor issues.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 10 hours of operation or more frequently in dusty conditions. Use warm, soapy water to clean and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
It is recommended to use only high-quality 2-stroke engine oil specifically designed for air-cooled engines. Using other types of oil can damage the engine.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, lubricating the blades, and ensuring the fuel mixture is correct.
Ensure the air vents are clear of debris and the cooling fins are clean. Regularly check the air filter and maintain the correct fuel mixture.
Excessive vibration can be caused by dull blades, loose fasteners, or an unbalanced crankshaft. Inspect and tighten all fasteners, and sharpen or replace the blades as needed.
To store the trimmer for winter, empty the fuel tank, clean the air filter, and lubricate the blades. Store in a dry, sheltered area away from direct sunlight.
