To start your Stihl HOS, ensure the unit is on a flat surface. Check the fuel and oil levels. Set the choke to 'cold start' if the engine is cold. Pull the starter cord until the engine fires.
Check the spark plug for fouling, ensure there is fresh fuel in the tank, and inspect the air filter for blockages. If problems persist, consult the user manual or contact a professional technician.
Regular maintenance should be performed every 25 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first. This includes checking spark plugs, air filters, and fuel lines.
Check the blade for dullness or damage and ensure it is properly aligned. Replace or sharpen the blade if necessary. Also, ensure that the cutting deck is free from debris.
Use a high-quality, ethanol-free fuel with an octane rating of at least 89. Avoid using fuel with more than 10% ethanol to prevent damage to the engine.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and tap it gently to remove loose dirt. For thorough cleaning, wash the filter in warm, soapy water and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
Inspect the blade for imbalance or damage. Ensure all bolts and screws are tight. Check for debris lodged in the cutting mechanism and remove it if present.
Drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the unit thoroughly and store it in a dry place. Consider using a fuel stabilizer if storing with fuel.
Always wear protective eyewear, gloves, and sturdy footwear. Keep bystanders and pets away from the operating area. Ensure the engine is off before adjusting or cleaning the machine.
Regular maintenance is key. Keep the blades sharp, use clean and recommended fuel, and frequently check and clean the air filter. Proper storage also helps maintain performance.
