Stihl HL-KM Instruction Manual

To start the Stihl HL-KM, ensure the unit is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the closed position, press the fuel primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, then pull the starter rope firmly until the engine fires. Move the choke to the open position and pull the starter rope again until the engine runs.
The correct fuel mixture for the Stihl HL-KM is a 50:1 ratio of gasoline to oil, using high-quality 2-cycle engine oil.
To replace the air filter on the Stihl HL-KM, remove the air filter cover by loosening the screws or clips, take out the old filter, and insert a new one. Ensure that it is seated correctly before reattaching the cover.
If the engine won't start, check the spark plug for fouling or damage, ensure fresh fuel is used, and verify that the air filter is clean. Also, check the fuel lines for any blockage or leaks.
The blades should be sharpened regularly, depending on usage frequency. As a general guide, sharpen them after every 25 hours of use or when you notice reduced cutting performance.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting and replacing the spark plug if necessary, checking fuel lines, and ensuring the blades are sharp and undamaged.
When storing the Stihl HL-KM, ensure it is clean and dry. Drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor of fuel. Store in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
Use a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil that is formulated specifically for air-cooled engines. Stihl recommends using their branded oil for optimal performance and longevity.
Excessive vibration could be due to unbalanced or damaged blades, loose parts, or worn-out vibration dampeners. Inspect the unit for damaged components and ensure everything is tightened properly.
Prevent fuel issues by using fresh fuel with the correct mixture, avoiding ethanol-heavy gasoline, and using a fuel stabilizer if storing fuel for extended periods. Regularly check and clean the fuel filter and lines.
