The Stihl HL 94 requires a 50:1 fuel mixture of gasoline to 2-cycle engine oil. Make sure to use high-quality oil recommended by Stihl for optimal performance.
To start the Stihl HL 94, switch the ignition to "ON", press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, set the choke to full, pull the starter cord until the engine fires, then set the choke to half and pull again until the engine starts.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws labeled "L", "H", and "LA". Use a Stihl adjustment tool to adjust these screws for optimal idle and full-throttle performance. Be sure to consult the manual for specific adjustment settings.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning or replacing the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug, inspecting the fuel system for leaks, sharpening the blades, and lubricating the gearbox.
Common reasons for starting issues include a flooded engine, old or incorrect fuel mixture, dirty air filter, faulty spark plug, or carburetor issues. Inspect and resolve these areas to improve starting.
For off-season storage, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the trimmer thoroughly, particularly the air filter and blades, and store it in a dry, cool place.
The Stihl HL 94 is designed for trimming hedges and can handle branches up to a certain thickness. For very thick branches, consider using a saw or a more powerful tool designed for cutting thicker wood.
Excessive vibration can be caused by imbalanced or damaged blades, loose parts, or engine issues. Check the blades for damage, ensure all screws and bolts are tight, and inspect the engine for any irregularities.
To sharpen the blades, remove them from the trimmer and use a flat file to sharpen each cutting edge. Ensure you maintain the original angle of the blades and balance them after sharpening to prevent vibration.
Always wear protective gear including gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection. Ensure the work area is clear of obstacles and bystanders, and never operate the trimmer above shoulder height to maintain control and safety.
