The Stihl HL 90 requires a 50:1 fuel mixture, which means 50 parts gasoline to 1 part 2-stroke engine oil.
To start the Stihl HL 90, set the choke, press the primer bulb several times, pull the starter cord until the engine fires, then move the choke to the run position and pull again until the engine starts.
It is recommended to check and clean the air filter after every 10 hours of use to ensure optimal performance.
If the cutting efficiency is reduced, check the blades for dullness or damage and sharpen or replace them as necessary. Also, ensure that the blade guard is clean and not obstructing movement.
Ensure that all components are securely fastened, and use anti-vibration gloves. Regular maintenance and proper handling can also help minimize vibration.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, checking the fuel system for leaks, and lubricating the gear mechanism.
An engine stalling under load could be due to a clogged air filter, a dirty carburetor, or incorrect fuel mixture. Cleaning the air filter, adjusting the carburetor, and ensuring the correct fuel mixture can resolve this issue.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws marked 'H' (high speed) and 'L' (low speed). Turn them carefully to fine-tune the engine performance. Refer to the manual for specific settings.
For storage, clean the unit thoroughly, remove fuel from the tank, and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Store in a dry, safe place.
To replace the spark plug, remove the spark plug boot, use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug, and install a new one by screwing it in by hand before tightening with the wrench. Ensure it is the correct type as specified in the manual.
