To start your Stihl HL 45, first ensure the fuel tank is filled with the correct fuel mix. Set the choke lever to the start position, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, and pull the starter rope until the engine fires. After it starts, move the choke to the run position and allow the engine to warm up.
The Stihl HL 45 requires a 50:1 fuel mixture, which consists of 50 parts gasoline to 1 part 2-stroke engine oil. Use high-quality, unleaded gasoline and Stihl's 2-stroke engine oil for optimal performance.
If the Stihl HL 45 won't start, check the spark plug for fouling, clean or replace it if necessary. Ensure the air filter is clean and not clogged. Also, verify that the fuel is fresh and the carburetor is properly adjusted.
Sharpen the blades of your Stihl HL 45 hedge trimmer every 50 hours of use or whenever you notice a decrease in cutting performance. Use a flat file or a sharpening stone, and ensure both blades are evenly sharpened.
After each use, clean the cutting blades with a brush and lubricate them with a resin-free oil. Check for any loose screws and tighten them. Clean the air filter and inspect the spark plug for any wear or carbon buildup.
While the Stihl HL 45 can handle some moisture, it is not recommended to use it in heavy rain or very wet conditions as this can lead to electrical issues and reduced performance. Always prioritize safety and wait for dry conditions if possible.
To adjust the carburetor on the Stihl HL 45, locate the adjustment screws marked 'L', 'H', and 'LA'. Adjust the 'L' screw for low-speed fuel mixture and the 'H' screw for high-speed fuel mixture. The 'LA' screw adjusts the idle speed. Make small adjustments and test the engine between each one.
Excessive vibration may be caused by an unbalanced blade, loose screws, or worn-out anti-vibration mounts. Check for any debris on the blades and ensure all screws are tight. If the issue persists, inspect the anti-vibration mounts and replace them if necessary.
To clean the air filter, remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. Wash it in warm, soapy water and let it dry completely. If the filter is damaged or heavily soiled, replace it with a new one.
For off-season storage, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor of fuel. Clean the entire unit, sharpen the blades, and lubricate them. Store the hedge trimmer in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or moisture.
