To start the Stihl FS-KM, first ensure the stop switch is in the run position. Then, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible. Move the choke lever to the cold start position, pull the starter cord until you hear the engine attempt to start, then move the choke to the warm start position, and pull the starter cord again to start the engine.
If the engine is not starting, check if there's sufficient fuel in the tank and ensure that it's fresh. Examine the spark plug for fouling or damage and clean or replace it if necessary. Make sure the air filter is clean and not clogged. Finally, verify that the stop switch is in the run position.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 25 hours of operation or sooner if you notice a decrease in engine performance. Use warm soapy water to clean the filter and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
The recommended fuel mixture for the Stihl FS-KM is a 50:1 ratio of gasoline to Stihl 2-cycle engine oil. Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89.
To maintain cutting performance, regularly inspect the trimmer line for wear and replace it when necessary. Ensure the cutting attachment is properly balanced and free from debris. Sharpen or replace cutting blades as needed based on the type of attachment used.
Excessive vibration might be caused by an unbalanced cutting attachment, loose parts, or worn-out components. Check that the cutting attachment is properly installed and balanced. Inspect the machine for any loose screws or bolts and tighten them. Replace any worn or damaged parts.
To replace the trimmer line, first remove the spool from the trimmer head. Cut a new length of line according to the specifications in the user manual. Wind the line evenly onto the spool in the direction indicated, leaving enough line to extend through the line guides when reassembled.
Routine maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting and replacing the spark plug as needed, checking fuel lines for leaks, cleaning the cooling fins, and inspecting the cutting attachments for wear and damage.
To store the Stihl FS-KM, first drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the unit thoroughly, especially the air filter and cutting attachments. Store it in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and corrosive agents.
If the FS-KM is losing power, ensure the air filter is clean and unobstructed. Check the fuel for proper mixture and freshness. Inspect the exhaust system for blockages. Additionally, examine the spark plug for fouling and replace it if necessary.
