To start the Stihl FS 70, place it on a flat surface, set the choke lever to the 'cold start' position, pump the fuel primer bulb until it fills with fuel, pull the starter rope until the engine fires, and then move the choke to the 'run' position.
The Stihl FS 70 requires a 50:1 fuel mix ratio, which means 50 parts gasoline to 1 part 2-cycle engine oil. Use high-quality, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89.
To replace the trimmer line, turn off the engine, remove the spool by pressing the tabs on the side, and take out the old line. Cut a new line approximately 12 feet long, insert it through the holes and wind it evenly on the spool. Reassemble the spool and cap.
Engine stalling can be caused by a clogged air filter, dirty fuel filter, or old fuel. Clean or replace the air filter, check the fuel filter, and ensure you are using fresh fuel mixed at the correct ratio.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug, inspecting the fuel system, and checking the cutting attachment for wear. Conduct these checks every 25 operating hours.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws marked 'H', 'L', and 'LA'. Start with the 'L' screw for low-speed adjustments, then adjust the 'H' screw for high-speed, and finally set the 'LA' screw for idle speed. Use a tachometer for precise tuning.
If the trimmer won't start, check for fuel issues, ensure the spark plug is not fouled, verify the air filter is clean, and make sure the on/off switch is in the 'on' position. Inspect the ignition system if the problem persists.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover by unscrewing the knob, take out the filter, and wash it with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly, let it dry completely, and then reinstall it. Replace if damaged or heavily soiled.
No, only use cutting attachments approved by Stihl for the FS 70 model. Using improper attachments can lead to equipment damage or personal injury. Consult the user manual for compatible attachments.
Before storing, drain the fuel tank, run the engine until it stops, clean the unit thoroughly, and inspect for damage. Store in a dry and cool place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
