To start the Stihl FS 66, ensure the stop switch is in the 'I' position, press the primer bulb until fuel is visible, set the choke lever to cold start, pull the starter rope until the engine fires, then move the choke to run position and pull again until it starts.
The correct fuel mixture for the Stihl FS 66 is a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to Stihl 2-cycle engine oil.
To replace the trimmer line, remove the spool from the trimmer head, cut two lengths of line about 13 feet each, wind each line onto the spool in the direction of the arrow, and reassemble the head.
Check the fuel mixture, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, verify the air filter is not clogged, and inspect the ignition system.
Clean the air filter after every 10 hours of operation or more frequently if operating in dusty conditions.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws marked H (High speed) and L (Low speed), and use a screwdriver to fine-tune the engine performance while the trimmer is running. Consult the manual for specific settings.
The recommended spark plug for the Stihl FS 66 is the Bosch WSR 6 F or an equivalent. Ensure the gap is set to 0.02 inches (0.5 mm).
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, inspecting the fuel system, lubricating the gearhead, and checking the trimmer line.
Always wear protective eyewear, gloves, long pants, and sturdy shoes. Ensure the area is clear of bystanders and obstacles before operation.
For off-season storage, drain the fuel tank, clean the trimmer thoroughly, check for damaged parts, lubricate moving parts, and store in a dry, well-ventilated area.
