To start the Stihl FS 500 FS 550, ensure the choke is engaged, the fuel tank is filled, and the switch is in the 'on' position. Pull the starter rope until the engine fires.
The Stihl FS 500 FS 550 requires a 50:1 fuel mixture using unleaded gasoline and a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is clean and functional, verify that the air filter is not clogged, and confirm the choke is correctly set.
Regularly inspect the air filter for dirt and debris. Clean it with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
To change the cutting blade, disconnect the spark plug, use the tool provided to remove the blade nut, replace the blade, and secure the nut tightly.
An engine running rough or stalling may be due to a dirty air filter, old or incorrect fuel mixture, or a clogged spark arrestor. Check and clean each component as necessary.
The spark plug should be inspected and replaced if necessary after every 100 hours of operation. Use the specified spark plug type recommended in the manual.
If the engine overheats, turn it off immediately, allow it to cool, check for blockages in the cooling fins, and ensure the air filter and exhaust are clean.
For long-term storage, empty the fuel tank, clean the unit thoroughly, and store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
Only use cutting attachments that are specifically designed for and compatible with the Stihl FS 500 FS 550, as specified in the user manual, to ensure safety and performance.
