To start the Stihl FS 460 C-M, first ensure the machine is on a flat surface. Set the switch to the start position, prime the fuel pump bulb until it is full, set the choke, and pull the starter rope firmly until the engine fires.
Use a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline at a ratio of 50:1 for the Stihl FS 490 C-M. Ensure the gasoline has an octane rating of at least 89.
If the FS 460 C-M won't start, check the fuel level and quality, inspect the spark plug for fouling, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify that the choke is properly set.
Regularly check the air filter of the FS 490 C-M and clean it if dirty. Replace the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty. This ensures optimal engine performance and longevity.
Sharpen the cutting blades whenever you notice a decrease in cutting performance. This can vary depending on use, but checking every 25 hours of operation is a good practice.
If the engine overheats, stop the machine and let it cool down. Check for any blockages in the air intake and clean them. Ensure the cooling fins are clean and the fuel mix is correct.
Adjust the carburetor on the FS 490 C-M by locating the adjustment screws marked ‘L’ for low speed, ‘H’ for high speed, and ‘LA’ for idle. Adjust them with a screwdriver according to the engine's response and recommended settings in the manual.
For off-season storage, clean the FS 460 C-M thoroughly, empty the fuel tank, and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Store in a dry place and consider adding a fuel stabilizer.
When operating the FS 490 C-M, wear protective eyewear, ear protection, gloves, sturdy footwear, and long pants to protect against debris and noise.
To enhance performance, regularly maintain the trimmer by cleaning the air filter, ensuring the spark plug is in good condition, using fresh fuel, and keeping the cutting blade sharp.
