To start the Stihl FS 45 trimmer, place it on a flat surface, switch the ignition to "I", press the primer bulb several times, set the choke lever to the closed position, and pull the starter rope until the engine fires. Once it does, move the choke lever to the open position and pull the rope again to start the engine.
The correct fuel mixture for the Stihl FS 46 is a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to two-stroke engine oil. Ensure the gasoline has an octane rating of at least 89 and use high-quality two-stroke oil.
To replace the trimmer line, turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug. Remove the spool by pressing on the tabs or twisting the cap. Cut approximately 10 feet of new line, insert each end into the holes on the spool, and wind the line evenly. Reattach the spool and cap.
If your Stihl FS 46 won't start, check the fuel level and ensure it's fresh. Verify the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Inspect the air filter for blockages and clean or replace it if necessary. Also, ensure the choke is in the correct position for starting.
The air filter on the FS 45 should be checked and cleaned after every 10 hours of use. If you operate in dusty conditions, clean it more frequently to maintain optimal performance.
To store your Stihl FS 46 during the off-season, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the machine thoroughly, inspect for any damage, and store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
To adjust the carburetor on your Stihl FS 45, locate the adjustment screws marked L (low speed), H (high speed), and T (idle speed). Turn each screw slightly to adjust the engine performance. It is recommended to have a professional make adjustments to avoid engine damage.
Frequent trimmer line breakage can be due to using an incorrect line size, contact with hard surfaces, or a worn-out trimmer head. Ensure you're using the recommended line size and avoid hitting objects like rocks or fences. Inspect and replace the trimmer head if it's worn.
To reduce vibration in the FS 45, ensure all components are tightly secured. Replace any worn or damaged parts like the handle or anti-vibration mounts. Regular maintenance and using balanced trimmer line can also help minimize vibration.
Regular maintenance for the Stihl FS 46 includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug annually, inspecting the fuel system for leaks, and lubricating the gearbox. Always refer to the user manual for detailed maintenance procedures.
