To start your Stihl FS 40 or FS 50, ensure the machine is on a flat surface, switch the ignition to "on," set the choke, press the fuel pump bulb, and pull the starter cord firmly until the engine fires.
Both the Stihl FS 40 and FS 50 require a gasoline and oil mixture at a ratio of 50:1, using a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly connected, verify the air filter is not clogged, and inspect for any fuel line issues.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, inspecting the fuel system, and sharpening the cutting tools.
To replace the trimmer line, remove the spool cap, take out the old line, wind the new line following the directional arrows, and reassemble the spool cap.
Excessive vibration may be caused by an unbalanced cutting attachment, loose parts, or engine issues. Check the cutting tool, tighten any loose screws, and inspect the engine mounts.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, dry completely, and reassemble.
Engine stalling can be due to a clogged air filter, incorrect fuel mixture, or carburetor issues. Clean the air filter, ensure the correct fuel mix, and check the carburetor settings.
Locate the carburetor adjustment screws, typically labeled L (low speed), H (high speed), and T (idle). Adjust these screws according to the manufacturer's specifications for optimal performance.
The FS 40 and FS 50 models can use various cutting attachments, including string trimmer heads and metal blades, depending on the task and manufacturer's recommendations.
