To start the Stihl FS 111 RX, ensure it's on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to 'cold start,' press the fuel pump bulb several times until fuel is visible, and pull the starter cord until the engine fires. Then, move the choke to 'run' and pull again until the engine starts.
Use a 50:1 fuel mixture ratio of unleaded gasoline and high-quality two-stroke engine oil. It's important to use fresh fuel and mix it in a safe container before filling the tank.
To replace the trimmer line, turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug. Remove the spool from the head, wind the line in the direction of the arrow on the spool, and reattach the spool to the trimmer head.
Check the fuel level and ensure it's fresh. Inspect the spark plug for damage or wear, and clean or replace it if necessary. Make sure the air filter is clean, and check the fuel lines for any blockages or cracks.
Routine maintenance should be performed every 25 hours of operation. This includes checking the spark plug, cleaning or replacing the air filter, and inspecting the fuel system. More comprehensive servicing is recommended annually or every 100 hours.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws on the side of the engine. Use a small screwdriver to adjust the 'L' screw for low speed and 'H' screw for high speed until the engine runs smoothly. Refer to the manual for specific tuning settings.
For off-season storage, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear fuel from the carburetor. Clean the trimmer thoroughly, check for any damage, and store it in a dry, dust-free environment.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover, take out the filter, and wash it gently with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the filter if it's excessively dirty or damaged.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced or damaged trimmer head, loose parts, or worn components. Inspect the trimmer head, shaft, and handle for any issues and tighten or replace parts as necessary.
Always wear protective gear, including eye and ear protection, gloves, and long clothing. Ensure the area is clear of bystanders and obstacles, and never operate the trimmer above waist height. Follow all safety instructions in the manual.
