To start the Stihl FS 100 RX, first ensure the trimmer is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the cold start position, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, pull the starter cord until the engine fires, then move the choke to the run position and pull the starter cord again to start the engine.
The Stihl FS 100 RX requires a 50:1 fuel mixture, which is 50 parts gasoline to 1 part two-stroke engine oil. Ensure you use high-quality, unleaded gasoline and Stihl two-stroke oil for optimal performance.
If the trimmer does not start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage and replace if necessary. Verify that the air filter is clean and not clogged. Also, ensure the choke is in the correct position for starting.
Regular maintenance for the Stihl FS 100 RX includes cleaning or replacing the air filter, checking the spark plug and replacing it if worn, inspecting the fuel filter and lines, and lubricating the gear head. Additionally, inspect the trimmer line and replace it as needed.
To replace the trimmer line, turn off the trimmer and disconnect the spark plug. Remove the spool from the trimmer head, then cut a length of line approximately 25 feet long. Wind the line evenly onto the spool, following the direction indicated on the spool. Reattach the spool to the trimmer head.
Excessive vibration can be caused by a few factors including an unbalanced trimmer head, damaged or worn cutting attachments, or loose parts. Check that the trimmer head is properly balanced and that all components are securely fastened. Replace any damaged parts as needed.
To clean the air filter, remove the filter cover and take out the air filter. Wash the filter in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to air dry completely. Once dry, reinstall the filter and cover. Replace the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
Engine stalling can be caused by a clogged air filter, dirty spark plug, or incorrect fuel mixture. Clean or replace the air filter, inspect the spark plug and clean or replace it if necessary, and ensure the fuel mixture is correct and fresh.
Before storage, clean the trimmer thoroughly, drain the fuel tank, and run the engine until it stops to clear any remaining fuel from the carburetor. Remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder, then pull the starter cord to distribute the oil. Store the trimmer in a dry, well-ventilated area.
Carburetor adjustment should be done carefully. Locate the adjustment screws (usually marked with H, L, and LA). Start the engine and let it warm up. Adjust the L screw for low speed, the H screw for high speed, and the LA screw for idle speed. It's recommended to refer to the user manual or have a professional perform the adjustment to ensure optimal performance.
