To start the Stihl FCS edger, ensure it is on a flat surface. Set the throttle trigger to the idle position, engage the choke, and pull the starter cord until the engine fires. Once it starts, move the choke to the run position for normal operation.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, inspecting the fuel filter, and ensuring the blade is sharp and properly attached. Conduct these checks every 25 hours of operation or as needed.
If the Stihl FCS won't start, check the fuel level and quality, inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify that the choke is set correctly. Additionally, ensure the on/off switch is in the correct position.
To replace the blade, disconnect the spark plug for safety, loosen the blade bolt using the appropriate wrench, remove the old blade, and attach the new one. Ensure the blade is securely fastened and properly aligned before use.
A rough-running engine can be due to a clogged air filter, dirty fuel, or a worn spark plug. Inspect and clean or replace these components as needed. Also, ensure the carburetor is correctly adjusted.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 10 hours of operation. If operating in dusty conditions, inspect it more frequently to ensure optimal airflow and engine performance.
Use a high-quality, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89. Mix it with a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at a ratio of 50:1 for optimal performance.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws labeled H (high speed) and L (low speed). Turn each screw slightly while the engine is running to fine-tune the air-fuel mixture for smooth operation. Refer to the manual for specific settings.
Wear protective eyewear, gloves, and sturdy footwear. Ensure the work area is clear of debris and bystanders. Always operate the edger in a stable position and be mindful of the blade's direction.
For off-season storage, clean the edger thoroughly, empty the fuel tank, and run the engine until it stalls to clear fuel lines. Store in a dry, cool place, and cover it to prevent dust accumulation.
