To start the Stihl FC-MM Yard Boss, ensure the unit is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the closed position, press the fuel pump bulb several times until fuel is visible, and set the throttle trigger to the start position. Pull the starter handle slowly until resistance is felt, then pull quickly and firmly. Once the engine starts, move the choke lever to the open position.
Use a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89. The fuel mixture should be at a 50:1 ratio (2.6 ounces of oil per gallon of gasoline).
Regularly check the air filter for dirt and damage. Clean it by removing the cover and gently tapping the filter to remove loose dirt. If necessary, wash the filter with warm, soapy water and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
Ensure the engine is off and cool before installing attachments. Align the attachment with the shaft and push it until it clicks into place. Secure the attachment using the locking pin. Refer to the user manual for specific instructions related to each type of attachment.
Check the fuel tank to ensure it is filled with the correct fuel mixture. Inspect the spark plug for dirt and wear, and clean or replace it if necessary. Verify that the air filter is clean and that the choke is set correctly. If the problem persists, contact a professional technician.
The blades should be inspected and sharpened regularly, depending on usage. If you notice a decrease in performance or if the blades are visibly dull, it's time to sharpen them. Generally, sharpening every 20-30 hours of operation is recommended.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, eye protection, and sturdy footwear. Ensure the area is clear of debris and bystanders before operating. Be aware of your surroundings and keep a firm grip on the machine handles.
Clean the unit thoroughly, removing all dirt and debris. Drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Remove the spark plug and apply a small amount of oil into the cylinder, then pull the starter handle to distribute the oil. Store the unit in a dry, sheltered location.
Excessive vibration can be caused by loose or damaged attachments, unbalanced blades, or engine issues. Inspect the machine for any loose parts, tighten any loose bolts, and ensure attachments are correctly installed. If vibration persists, consult a professional technician.
Turn off the engine and allow it to cool. Disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Check the gap on the new spark plug and adjust if necessary. Install the new spark plug by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten it with the wrench. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
