To start the Stihl FC 100, begin by ensuring the unit is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the 'Start' position, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, and pull the starter cord briskly. Once the engine starts, move the choke lever to the 'Run' position.
Regular maintenance for the Stihl FC 100 includes checking and cleaning the air filter after every 10 hours of use, inspecting the spark plug after 25 hours, and replacing it if necessary. Additionally, inspect the blades and tighten any loose screws or fasteners monthly.
If the FC 100 won't start, first check the fuel tank for sufficient fuel and its freshness. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage and replace if needed. Ensure the air filter is clean and the choke is set correctly. If it still doesn't start, seek professional servicing.
The Stihl FC 100 requires a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to high-quality 2-stroke engine oil. Ensure the gasoline has a minimum octane rating of 89, and avoid using fuel with more than 10% ethanol content.
To replace the blade, first ensure the edger is off and disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Use a wrench to remove the blade nut, then remove the old blade. Install the new blade, making sure it is seated properly, and secure it with the nut.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced or damaged blade. Inspect the blade for damage and replace if necessary. Also, check that all screws and fasteners are tightened. If the problem persists, it may need professional inspection.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover and take out the filter. Wash it gently with warm soapy water and let it dry completely. Reinstall the filter and cover before using the edger again. Always ensure the filter is dry before installation.
If the engine overheats, check for blockages in the air intake and cooling fins, and ensure proper fuel mixture. Allow the engine to cool and check the oil levels. Persistent overheating may require professional servicing.
It is not recommended to use the Stihl FC 100 in wet conditions as it may cause damage to the equipment and poses a safety risk. Wait until the surface is dry to ensure safe and effective operation.
For off-season storage, clean the edger thoroughly and run the engine until the fuel tank is empty. Store the unit in a dry, dust-free space. It's also advisable to remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder for lubrication.
