To start the Stihl BG 46, first ensure the blower is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the cold start position, press the fuel pump bulb several times until it is full, and then pull the starter rope until the engine fires. Once the engine starts, adjust the choke lever to the run position.
The Stihl BG 46 requires a gasoline and oil mixture. Use a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil at a 50:1 fuel-to-oil ratio for optimal performance.
It is recommended to check and clean the air filter after every 10 hours of operation or more frequently if you are working in dusty conditions.
If the blower won't start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for signs of wear or damage, and clean or replace it if necessary. Make sure the air filter is clean and the choke is in the correct position.
Remove the spark plug and inspect it for wear or carbon deposits. Clean it with a wire brush and check the electrode gap. Replace the spark plug if it is damaged or worn beyond specified limits.
To store the blower, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the blower thoroughly and store it in a dry, dust-free area away from direct sunlight. Consider removing the spark plug and adding a few drops of oil into the cylinder to prevent corrosion.
Ensure that the muffler and air filter are clean and in good condition. Replace any damaged parts. Using ear protection can also help reduce the perceived noise level.
Excessive vibration can be caused by loose parts or an unbalanced impeller. Check for and tighten any loose screws or components. Inspect the impeller for damage and replace it if necessary.
Regular maintenance, including cleaning the air filter, replacing the spark plug, and ensuring the fuel mixture is correct, will help maintain optimal performance. Ensure all moving parts are lubricated as per the manufacturer's instructions.
While the BG 46 can handle damp leaves, it is not recommended for use in extremely wet conditions, as wet leaves can stick together and reduce the blower's effectiveness. Dry conditions are ideal for optimal performance.
