To replace the line, first ensure the trimmer is off and the head is cool. Press the tabs on the sides of the trimmer head to remove the cap. Take out any remaining line, then insert a pre-cut length of line into each eyelet. Wind the line tightly in the direction of the arrow on the spool, then reattach the cap.
It is recommended to use a nylon line with a diameter of 2.0 mm (0.08 inches) for optimal performance with the Stihl AutoCut 5-2 trimmer head.
The line may break if it is not the correct size, if it is old and brittle, or if you are using the trimmer too close to hard surfaces. Ensure you're using a 2.0 mm line and avoid contact with rocks or concrete.
To prevent line welding, store your trimmer line in a cool, dry place and avoid winding it too tightly on the spool. Using a high-quality line can also reduce the chances of welding.
If the line does not advance, check for tangles or jams in the spool. Ensure the line is wound in the correct direction and that the spool is not damaged. Clean the head to remove any debris.
The AutoCut 5-2 is compatible with several Stihl trimmer models. However, it is recommended to check your trimmer's user manual or contact Stihl support to confirm compatibility.
The frequency of replacing the cutting line depends on usage. Regular inspection is advised, and replace the line when it becomes frayed or too short for effective trimming.
Regularly clean the trimmer head to remove grass and debris. Check for any signs of wear or damage, and ensure the line is properly wound and the cap is securely attached.
To install the AutoCut 5-2, first remove any existing trimmer head. Align the AutoCut 5-2 with the drive shaft, then secure it by tightening the nut or bolt according to your trimmer model's instructions.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an imbalanced line or debris inside the head. Check that the line is evenly wound and remove any debris. Also, inspect for any damage to the head components.
