The correct fuel mixture for a Stihl 08 S chainsaw is a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to two-stroke engine oil.
To start a Stihl 08 S chainsaw, first ensure the chain brake is engaged. Then, switch the ignition on, set the choke, and pull the starter cord until the engine fires. Once it starts, gradually push the choke in.
If the chainsaw won't start, check for fuel issues, ensure the air filter is clean, verify the spark plug is functioning, and inspect the carburetor for any blockages.
The air filter should be cleaned after every 10 hours of use or more frequently if operating in dusty conditions.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, inspecting the chain for sharpness, and ensuring proper chain tension.
To sharpen the chain, use a round file and guide to sharpen each cutter, maintaining the correct angle and ensuring all cutters are sharpened evenly.
If the chainsaw is overheating, check for adequate airflow, clean the cooling fins, and ensure the fuel mixture is correct.
To ensure longevity, perform regular maintenance, use the correct fuel mixture, and store the chainsaw in a dry, clean place when not in use.
Stihl recommends using its own brand of bar and chain oil, which is specifically formulated to reduce wear and improve lubrication.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the carburetor adjustment screws marked as H (high speed), L (low speed), and LA (idle speed). Adjust these screws according to the user manual to achieve optimal performance.
