To start a Stihl 064 or 066 chainsaw, ensure the chain brake is engaged. Set the master control lever to the cold start position. Pull the starter rope until the engine fires briefly. Move the master control to the warm start position, then pull the starter again until the engine runs.
The recommended fuel mixture for a Stihl 064 or 066 chainsaw is a 50:1 ratio of gasoline to 2-stroke engine oil. Use high-quality, unleaded gasoline and Stihl's 2-stroke engine oil for optimal performance.
First, check the fuel and ensure it's fresh and properly mixed. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage, and clean or replace it as needed. Check the air filter for clogs, and clean or replace it if necessary. Finally, verify that the carburetor settings are correct.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug, inspecting the chain and guide bar for wear, and ensuring the chain is properly tensioned. It's also important to clean the cooling fins and check the fuel and oil filters.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws (usually labeled H, L, and LA). Start the chainsaw and let it warm up. Adjust the L screw for low-speed performance, the H screw for high-speed performance, and the LA screw for idle speed. Tuning should be done carefully to avoid engine damage.
Ensure the chain is sharp and properly tensioned. Check the depth gauges and adjust them if necessary. Make sure the guide bar is straight and not worn out. If issues persist, consider replacing the chain or consulting a professional.
First, ensure the chainsaw is turned off and cool. Engage the chain brake, loosen the nuts on the sprocket cover, and remove it. Remove the old chain and guide bar. Place the new chain on the guide bar, ensuring correct direction, and reassemble the cover and nuts. Adjust the chain tension before use.
Use high-quality bar and chain oil designed specifically for chainsaws. Stihl offers its own brand of bar and chain oil that provides excellent lubrication and protection for the chainsaw's bar and chain.
To clean the air filter, first remove the top cover of the chainsaw. Take out the air filter and gently clean it with warm, soapy water. Rinse it thoroughly and let it dry completely before reinstalling it. Consider replacing the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and chainsaw chaps. Ensure the work area is clear of obstacles and people. Always operate the chainsaw with both hands and be aware of kickback risks.
