To start the Stihl 056 chainsaw, ensure the chain brake is engaged, move the master control lever to the choke position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires briefly, then set the master control to the run position and pull the rope again until the engine starts.
The Stihl 056 chainsaw requires a fuel mixture of 50:1, using 50 parts gasoline to 1 part 2-stroke engine oil. Ensure you use high-quality oil specifically designed for air-cooled 2-cycle engines.
If your Stihl 056 won't start, check the fuel level and mixture, inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling, ensure the air filter is clean, and check for any blockages in the fuel line. Ensure the kill switch is in the correct position.
Regular maintenance for the Stihl 056 includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug, inspecting the fuel system, sharpening the chain, and checking the tension of the chain. Lubricate the bar and chain and inspect the clutch.
To tension the chain on a Stihl 056, loosen the bar nuts slightly, adjust the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the underside of the bar, and ensure it can still move freely. Tighten the bar nuts securely once adjusted.
Stalling issues in a Stihl 056 can be caused by a clogged air filter, a dirty carburetor, old fuel, or an improperly adjusted idle speed. Cleaning or replacing these components can often resolve the issue.
To clean the air filter on a Stihl 056, remove the cover, take out the filter, and use warm, soapy water to wash it. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace if excessively dirty or damaged.
Use a high-quality bar and chain oil specifically designed for chainsaws to ensure proper lubrication and performance of the Stihl 056. This helps reduce friction and wear on the chain and bar.
To replace the spark plug on a Stihl 056, remove the top cover, disconnect the spark plug wire, and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install a new plug with the correct gap, reattach the wire, and replace the cover.
For long-term storage, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the chainsaw thoroughly, remove the chain and guide bar, and store in a dry, safe place. Consider applying a light oil to prevent rust.
