To start your Stihl 026, ensure the chain brake is engaged, switch the ignition to 'on', set the choke, pull the starter cord until the engine fires, then set to half-throttle. Pull the starter again until it starts, then release the chain brake.
The Stihl 026 requires a 50:1 fuel mix ratio, which means 50 parts gasoline to 1 part 2-stroke engine oil. Use high-quality oil to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover, take out the filter, and gently wash it in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely before reinstalling. Do not use compressed air, as it may damage the filter.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the H, L, and LA screws. Start the saw and let it warm up. Adjust the L screw for smooth idle, the H screw for maximum RPM without over-revving, and the LA screw for a steady idle speed.
Sharpen your chain whenever it becomes dull, which can vary depending on usage. Signs of dullness include difficulty cutting and fine sawdust. Regular inspection and sharpening can extend the chain's life.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, inspecting the chain tension, cleaning the guide bar groove, and ensuring proper lubrication of the chain and bar.
Check the fuel mix, spark plug condition, and air filter cleanliness. Ensure the choke is properly set, and the fuel lines are not blocked. If issues persist, consult a professional.
To replace the spark plug, remove the top cover, disconnect the spark plug wire, and use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug. Install the new plug, ensuring it's properly gapped, and reconnect the wire.
For storage, clean the saw thoroughly, empty the fuel tank, and run the carburetor dry. Remove the chain and bar, and store them separately. Keep the saw in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
Ensure the air intake and cooling fins are clean and unobstructed. Check the fuel mix ratio and avoid running the saw at full throttle for extended periods. If overheating persists, consult a Stihl dealer.
