To start the Stihl 020 T, ensure the chain brake is engaged, set the master control lever to the cold start position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires, and then set the lever to warm start to run the engine.
The Stihl 020 T requires a fuel mixture of 50:1, which means mixing 2.6 ounces of two-stroke engine oil with one gallon of unleaded gasoline.
Check the fuel level and mixture, inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage, clean the air filter, and ensure the carburetor is properly adjusted.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, inspecting and replacing the spark plug, sharpening the chain, checking the chain tension, and cleaning the cooling fins.
To tension the chain, loosen the bar nuts, turn the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the bottom of the guide bar, and then retighten the bar nuts.
Chain smoking can be due to a lack of lubrication. Check the oil tank and ensure the oiling mechanism is functioning properly.
You should sharpen the chain using a round file and file guide, maintaining the correct angles and ensuring each cutter is the same length.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and clean it with warm soapy water or replace it if it is damaged. Dry thoroughly before reinstalling.
Loss of power could be due to a clogged air filter, a dirty spark plug, improper fuel mixture, or a blocked exhaust. Inspect these components and clean or replace them as necessary.
For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank, clean the chainsaw thoroughly, remove and clean the chain and guide bar, and store in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
