Stihl 010 and 011 chainsaws require a 50:1 fuel mix ratio, which is 50 parts gasoline to 1 part two-stroke engine oil. Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 and high-quality two-stroke oil.
To start your Stihl 010 or 011 chainsaw, set the choke to the closed position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires briefly, then move the choke to the open position and continue pulling the starter rope until the engine starts.
If your Stihl chainsaw won't start, check the fuel and air filters, inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, ensure the choke is set correctly, and verify that the fuel mix is fresh. Clean or replace parts as necessary.
Clean the air filter after every 10 hours of use, or more frequently if operating in dusty conditions. Remove the air filter, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry before reinstalling.
For rough idling, adjust the idle speed screw on the carburetor, clean the air filter, and check the spark plug for fouling. If the problem persists, a carburetor adjustment or cleaning may be needed.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug, inspecting the chain and guide bar, lubricating the chain, and ensuring the fuel mix is fresh.
To sharpen the chain, secure the chainsaw, use a round file that matches the chain's pitch, and file each cutter using smooth, even strokes. Ensure the file is held at the correct angle according to the manufacturer's specifications.
The chain may come off if it's too loose, the tension is incorrect, or the bar and chain are worn. Adjust the chain tension according to the manual and inspect the bar and chain for wear or damage.
To reduce vibration, ensure the chain is properly sharpened and tensioned, maintain a firm grip on the handles, and regularly inspect anti-vibration mounts for wear. Consider using gloves designed for vibration reduction.
Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye and ear protection, gloves, and chainsaw chaps. Maintain a firm grip, be aware of your surroundings, and never operate the chainsaw above shoulder height.
