To start the snow thrower, ensure the fuel valve is open, set the choke to full, and insert the ignition key. Push the primer bulb a few times, then pull the starter handle or use the electric start button if equipped.
Perform regular maintenance such as checking the oil level before each use, cleaning the auger and chute after each use, inspecting the spark plug every season, and replacing the air filter annually.
If the snow thrower won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the ignition key is inserted, verify the choke is set properly, inspect the spark plug for wear, and confirm the primer bulb is functioning.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up. Turn off the engine, remove the oil drain plug, and drain the oil into a suitable container. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type.
If the auger is not turning, check for any obstructions in the auger or chute. Inspect the auger drive belt for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Ensure the control cable is properly adjusted.
To prevent clogging, avoid wet or heavy snow conditions. Apply a non-stick spray to the chute and auger, and clear snow in stages rather than attempting to clear deep snow in one pass.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine damage.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire, remove the old spark plug using a socket wrench, and install the new spark plug by hand before tightening it with the wrench. Reconnect the spark plug wire.
If excessive vibration occurs, check for loose parts or fasteners, inspect the auger and impeller for damage, and balance the tires if necessary. Tighten any loose components before use.
For off-season storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the exterior, lubricate moving parts, and store the snow thrower in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements.
