To start the Poulan Pro PT 17 trimmer, ensure the choke lever is in the full choke position, press the primer bulb 6 times, pull the starter rope until the engine attempts to start, then move the choke to the half-choke position and pull the starter rope again until the engine starts.
Use a mixture of unleaded gasoline and a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil at a 40:1 ratio. Ensure the gasoline has an octane rating of 87 or higher.
To replace the trimmer line, remove the spool from the trimmer head, cut two lengths of line, insert the ends into the spool, and wind the lines in the direction of the arrows on the spool. Reattach the spool to the trimmer head.
If the trimmer won't start, check the spark plug for wear, ensure the fuel is fresh, and verify that the air filter is clean. Additionally, make sure the choke and primer bulb are functioning correctly.
To clean the air filter, remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, wash it in warm soapy water, rinse and let it dry completely, then reinstall it and secure the cover.
If the trimmer line breaks frequently, ensure you are using the correct line diameter, avoid hitting hard surfaces, and check the trimmer head for damage.
Perform maintenance at the start of each season or every 25 hours of use, including checking the spark plug, cleaning the air filter, and inspecting the trimmer head and fuel system.
The recommended spark plug gap for the Poulan Pro PT 17 trimmer is 0.025 inches (0.635 mm).
To improve performance, ensure regular maintenance is performed, use fresh fuel, replace worn parts, and properly tension the trimmer line.
Always wear protective eyewear, gloves, and long pants. Ensure the area is clear of debris and bystanders before starting the trimmer. Follow the operating manual's safety guidelines.
