Ensure the unit is on a flat surface. Set the choke to full, push the primer bulb 3 times, engage the safety key, and then press the electric start button or pull the recoil starter.
Use fresh, clean, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than E10.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation, and then every 50 hours or at the beginning of each season.
Check for blockages in the chute or auger, ensure the engine is running at full throttle, and inspect the auger and impeller for wear or damage.
Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, clean the unit, and store it in a dry, protected area. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starting.
Turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug. Align the hole in the auger with the hole in the shaft, remove the broken shear pin, and insert a new one, securing it with the cotter pin.
Check the power source and cord for issues. Make sure the safety key is inserted. If using a battery, ensure it is charged and properly connected.
Consider installing tire chains for better grip on icy surfaces, and ensure the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure.
Check the oil level, inspect the fuel system for leaks, ensure all nuts and bolts are tight, and check the operation of the controls.
Check the spark plug for wear or fouling, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify that the fuel is fresh and the carburetor is properly adjusted.
