To start the Poulan Pro PR521 snow engine, first ensure the fuel tank is filled with fresh gasoline. Set the choke lever to the full choke position, prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb three times, and then pull the starter handle firmly. Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the run position.
Regular maintenance for the Poulan Pro PR521 includes changing the oil after the first 5 hours of use and every 50 hours thereafter, checking and replacing the spark plug annually, inspecting and cleaning the air filter, and ensuring the skid shoes and scraper bar are in good condition.
If the engine is not starting, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Verify the spark plug is in good condition and properly connected. Inspect the air filter for clogs and ensure the choke and throttle settings are correct.
To adjust the skid shoes, loosen the nuts securing them to the auger housing. Raise or lower the skid shoes to the desired height, ensuring they are even on both sides. Tighten the nuts securely once adjustments are made.
Check if the auger and impeller are free of debris and ice. Make sure the skid shoes and scraper bar are set correctly for the surface being cleared. If the problem persists, inspect the drive belt for wear and replace if necessary.
To prevent the discharge chute from clogging, clear snow at a steady pace without overloading the machine. Use a non-stick spray on the chute and auger to reduce snow buildup, and avoid running the engine at low speeds.
Use a high-quality SAE 5W-30 motor oil for the Poulan Pro PR521, especially formulated for cold weather operation, to ensure proper lubrication and performance.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install a new, properly gapped spark plug, and reconnect the spark plug wire securely.
Wear appropriate winter clothing, including safety goggles and non-slip footwear. Keep hands and feet away from all moving parts. Always stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire before performing maintenance or clearing jams.
For offseason storage, drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel deterioration. Clean the machine thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. Store in a dry, protected area to prevent rust and damage.
