To start the Poulan Pro PR17H42STA Tractor, ensure the brake is engaged, the gear is in neutral, and the throttle is set to the choke position. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine starts. Release the key once the engine is running.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness, ensure there is sufficient fuel, and verify that the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Also, check the fuse and replace it if necessary.
It is recommended to change the oil in the Poulan Pro PR17H42STA Tractor every 50 hours of operation or at the beginning of each mowing season, whichever comes first.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C) in the Poulan Pro PR17H42STA Tractor.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the tractor's fender. Move the lever to the desired cutting height position. Always ensure the tractor is turned off before making adjustments.
If the blades are not cutting evenly, check for dull or damaged blades. Sharpen or replace the blades as needed. Also, ensure the deck is level by adjusting the deck height adjustment nuts on both sides of the tractor.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades, loose parts, or debris lodged in the deck. Inspect and balance or replace blades, tighten any loose parts, and clean the deck thoroughly.
To replace the drive belt, first disconnect the spark plug wire for safety, then remove the mower deck. Carefully remove the old belt from the pulleys and install the new belt following the routing diagram in the manual. Reattach the mower deck and reconnect the spark plug wire.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, sharpening the blades, checking tire pressure, and lubricating moving parts as indicated in the owner’s manual.
For off-season storage, clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, remove the battery and store it in a cool dry place, and cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
