To start the Poulan Pro PR1742STD tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the gear shift is in neutral. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the start position until the engine fires up. Release the key once the engine starts.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always ensure the oil is API service classification SF, SG, SH, SJ, or higher.
Blades should be sharpened at least once a season or more frequently if you notice the mower is not cutting grass cleanly. Regular inspection for nicks and dullness will help determine the need for sharpening.
The recommended tire pressure for the Poulan Pro PR1742STD is 10 PSI for the front tires and 10 PSI for the rear tires. Proper tire inflation is crucial for optimal performance and safety.
To change the air filter, first, remove the air filter cover by unscrewing it. Take out the old air filter and replace it with a new one, ensuring it is seated properly. Reattach the cover securely.
If the tractor won't start, check that the battery is charged, the spark plug is clean and properly connected, and the fuel tank is filled with fresh gasoline. Also, ensure the safety features such as the brake and the PTO are correctly engaged.
To clean the mower deck, first ensure the engine is off and cool. Use a garden hose to spray underneath the deck, loosening any grass clippings and debris. Avoid using high pressure as it may damage the deck.
Adjust the cutting height by using the height adjustment lever located beside the seat. Move the lever to the desired cutting height position, ensuring it clicks into place securely.
For winterizing, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer, clean the mower thoroughly, and store it in a dry, covered location. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool place, and change the oil before storing the tractor.
Maintain the battery by keeping the terminals clean and free of corrosion. Charge the battery regularly, especially during periods of disuse, and check the electrolyte level if applicable, adding distilled water as necessary.
