To start the Poulan Pro PR1742STC Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is off, and the gear lever is in neutral. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine starts, then release the key.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Make sure to check the oil level regularly and change it according to the maintenance schedule.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel tank has fresh fuel, verify that the spark plug is in good condition, and check for any blown fuses.
To change the blades, park the tractor on a flat surface, disengage the PTO, and remove the ignition key. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, replace the old blade with a new one, and tighten the bolt securely.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 14 PSI and for the rear tires is 10 PSI. Regularly check and maintain the tire pressure for optimal performance.
Perform maintenance such as oil changes, air filter cleaning, and blade sharpening every 25 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season. Regular maintenance ensures the longevity of your tractor.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced blades, loose blade bolts, or damaged belts. Check and balance the blades, tighten any loose bolts, and inspect the belts for wear or damage.
To clean the cutting deck, turn off the engine and ensure the tractor is on a flat surface. Use a garden hose to rinse away grass clippings, and utilize a brush for stubborn debris. Avoid using high-pressure water, which can damage components.
If the transmission is slipping, check the drive belts for wear or damage and replace them if necessary. Also, ensure the transmission fluid is at the correct level and the linkage is properly adjusted.
To improve cutting performance, regularly sharpen and balance the blades, maintain the correct tire pressure, and keep the deck clean. Additionally, mow at the recommended height for your grass type and avoid mowing when the grass is wet.
