To start the Poulan Pro PEM65Y21RP mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, the choke is set to the correct position, and the throttle is adjusted. Pull the starter rope firmly to start the engine.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is functional, and inspect the air filter for blockages. Also, verify that the safety handle is engaged.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours or at the beginning of each mowing season.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for colder temperatures.
Disconnect the spark plug, remove the blade, and use a file or bench grinder to sharpen the blade evenly. Reattach the blade securely after sharpening.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level, inspecting and cleaning the air filter, sharpening the blade, and cleaning the deck after each use.
After each use, disconnect the spark plug and use a hose to wash away grass clippings and debris from the deck. Dry the deck thoroughly to prevent rust.
Check for a loose or unbalanced blade, ensure all mounting bolts are tight, and inspect for debris lodged in the mower deck.
Disconnect the spark plug wire, remove the old plug with a socket wrench, and install a new plug with the correct gap spacing. Reconnect the spark plug wire securely.
The recommended cutting height varies with grass type, but generally, set the mower deck between 2.5 to 3.5 inches for a healthy lawn.
