To start the Poulan Pro PDC18H42STA tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the blade engagement lever is in the disengaged position, and the throttle is set to "choke." Turn the ignition key clockwise to start the engine. Once started, adjust the throttle to "fast" for operation.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness, ensure there is fuel in the tank, and verify the spark plug is in good condition. Also, ensure the seat switch is engaged and the parking brake is set.
The oil in the Poulan Pro PDC18H42STA should be changed every 50 hours of operation or at least once per season. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance in warmer climates.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent engine damage.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the right side of the tractor. Move the lever forward or backward to select the desired cutting height. Ensure the mower deck is disengaged when making adjustments.
If the blades are not engaging, check the blade engagement cable for tension and wear. Verify that the PTO switch is functional and inspect the drive belt for damage or misalignment.
To maintain the battery, keep the terminals clean and free of corrosion. Charge the battery regularly, especially during periods of non-use, and store it in a cool, dry place during the off-season.
To replace the air filter, locate the air filter cover on the side of the engine. Remove the cover, take out the old filter, and insert a new one. Ensure the filter is seated properly before replacing the cover.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Check the blades for damage or wear and balance them if necessary. Inspect the blade spindles and pulleys for any signs of wear.
For winter storage, clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, and remove the battery. Add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, inflate the tires, and store the tractor in a dry, covered area. Cover the tractor to protect it from dust and debris.
