Ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is off, and the throttle is set to fast. Turn the ignition key to start the engine. Release the key once the engine starts.
First, warm up the engine for a few minutes. Turn off the engine and remove the oil drain plug to drain the old oil. Replace the drain plug and refill with new oil as specified in the manual.
Check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel valve is open, and verify the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. If issues persist, consult the service manual.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content.
Sharpen the blades at least once a mowing season or after every 25 hours of use to maintain cutting efficiency.
Stop the engine and allow it to cool. Check the cooling fins and air passages for debris. Clean as necessary. Ensure the oil level is adequate.
Keep the battery terminals clean and tight. Store the battery in a cool, dry place during the off-season and use a trickle charger to maintain charge.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced blades or debris stuck in the deck. Inspect and balance the blades, and clear any debris.
Remove the air filter from its housing. If it's a foam filter, wash it with soap and water, then let it dry completely. For paper filters, tap them gently to remove dirt, or replace if heavily soiled.
Regular maintenance includes changing the oil, cleaning the air filter, sharpening the blades, checking tire pressure, and inspecting belts and hoses. Follow the schedule in the owner's manual.
