To start the Poulan Pro PC1742STB Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the gear is in neutral, and the throttle is set to choke if the engine is cold. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine starts, then release the key.
Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blades, checking tire pressure, and lubricating moving parts.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections, ensure there is enough fuel, inspect the spark plug for wear, and verify that the safety switches are not engaged.
If the blades are not engaging, check the PTO (Power Take-Off) switch, ensure the belt is not broken or slipping, and inspect the blade engagement cable for proper tension.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the deck lift lever on the right side of the tractor and move it to the desired position. Ensure the deck is level by adjusting the deck wheels if necessary.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, then turn it off. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the old oil to drain completely. Replace the plug, and refill with new oil as per the manufacturer's specifications.
Uneven cutting may be caused by an unlevel deck, dull blades, or improper tire pressure. Check and adjust the deck level, sharpen or replace blades, and ensure all tires are equally inflated.
To winterize the tractor, clean the mower deck, change the oil, add a fuel stabilizer, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, and cover the tractor to protect it from the elements.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire, use a spark plug socket to remove the old plug, check the gap on the new plug, and install it by hand before tightening with the socket. Reattach the spark plug wire securely.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced blades, loose bolts, or damaged pulleys. Check for debris on the blades, ensure all fasteners are tight, and inspect the belts and pulleys for wear or damage.
