To start the Poulan Pro PC1742STA Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO switch is off, and the throttle is set to the choke position. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine starts. Release the key to the run position once the engine is running.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness. Ensure the fuel tank has fuel and the fuel valve is open. Verify that the spark plug is not fouled or damaged. If problems persist, consult the manual for further troubleshooting steps.
The oil should be changed after the first 5 hours of use and then every 50 hours thereafter. Use SAE 30 motor oil for the best performance in temperatures above 32°F.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using ethanol-blended fuels over 10%, as they can cause engine damage.
To adjust the mower deck, ensure the tractor is on a level surface. Measure the distance from the blade tips to the ground on both sides of the deck. Adjust the lift links to ensure both sides are equal, typically between 2.5 and 4 inches.
Before storing for winter, clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, and remove any fuel from the tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Inflate tires to the recommended pressure to prevent flat spots.
To replace the drive belt, disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the mower deck. Loosen the belt guides and remove the old belt. Install the new belt following the belt routing diagram found in the manual. Reattach the belt guides and mower deck.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced blades, loose parts, or damaged components. Check that the blades are not bent and are balanced. Tighten any loose nuts and bolts. If the problem persists, inspect the pulleys and spindles for damage.
To clean the air filter, remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. For a foam filter, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse, and let it dry. For a paper filter, gently tap it to remove debris. Replace if excessively dirty or damaged.
It is not recommended to use the Poulan Pro PC1742STA Tractor on slopes greater than 15 degrees. Always mow up and down slopes, not across, and use caution to avoid tipping.
