To start the Poulan Pro HT65 Trimmer, ensure the unit is on a flat surface. Press the primer bulb 6 times, move the choke lever to the full choke position, hold the handle and pull the starter rope briskly until the engine attempts to start. Move the choke to the half choke position and pull the rope again until the engine starts. Allow it to warm up before moving the choke to the run position.
Use a mixture of unleaded gasoline and 2-cycle oil at a ratio of 40:1. It is important to mix the fuel in a clean container before filling the trimmer's tank. Avoid using fuel that contains more than 10% ethanol.
If the trimmer won't start, check for fresh fuel, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, and verify that the air filter is clean. Also, ensure the choke is in the correct position for starting, and that the primer bulb is functioning properly.
To replace the trimmer line, remove the spool by pressing the tabs on the spool retainer. Take out any old line and insert the new line into the hole in the spool, then wind it evenly and tightly. Follow the directional arrows on the spool. Reattach the spool to the trimmer head and secure it with the spool retainer.
If the trimmer line breaks frequently, ensure you are using the correct line diameter. Avoid contact with hard surfaces, such as concrete, which can cause the line to snap. Also, check for sharp edges on the guard or head that might cut the line.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 5 hours of use. If it is excessively dirty, wash it with warm, soapy water, allow it to dry completely, and apply a few drops of oil before replacing it.
If the trimmer runs rough or stalls, check the fuel mixture for contamination or incorrect ratio. Inspect the spark plug for fouling and ensure the air filter is clean. Carburetor adjustments might be necessary if these checks do not solve the issue.
To store the trimmer, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the unit thoroughly, checking for any damage that needs repair. Store it in a dry, well-ventilated area away from corrosive materials and extreme temperatures.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug as needed, inspecting the fuel system for leaks, and ensuring that all screws and fasteners are secure. Additionally, keep the cutting attachment and guard clean and free from debris.
Carburetor adjustments should be made with the trimmer off and cooled down. Locate the adjustment screws marked L (low speed) and H (high speed). Turn the screws carefully, usually starting with the L screw, to achieve smooth idling and optimal performance. It is recommended to refer to the user manual for specific instructions and to seek professional assistance if needed.
