To start the Poulan Pro HDF550M Tiller, ensure the fuel tank is filled, set the choke lever to the 'start' position, pull the recoil starter handle gently until you feel resistance, then pull quickly to start the engine.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using E85 or fuels with more than 10% ethanol.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 25 hours of operation or at the beginning of each season.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected properly, and inspect the air filter for cleanliness. If these don't resolve the issue, consult the manual for further troubleshooting steps.
Adjust the depth stake at the rear of the tiller. Raise it for deeper tilling and lower it for shallower tilling. Secure the stake in place with the clevis pin and cotter pin.
Drain the fuel tank, change the oil, clean the tiller thoroughly, and inspect all parts for wear or damage. Store the tiller in a dry place.
Remove the spark plug wire, use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug, check the gap on the new plug, and install it. Reattach the spark plug wire.
Check the air filter before each use. Clean it every 25 hours of operation by washing it with mild detergent and water, then allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
Ensure the engine is off and the fuel valve is closed. Secure the tiller to the transport vehicle using straps, ensuring it is stable and will not shift during transit.
Check for loose or damaged tines and ensure that all bolts are tightened properly. Inspect the engine mounts and replace any worn components.
