Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87. Do not use ethanol blends higher than 10%.
Ensure the fuel shut-off valve is open, set the choke to full position, prime the engine, and then pull the starter handle or use the electric start if available.
Check for any clogs in the chute, ensure the auger is not damaged, and verify the engine is running at full speed. Adjust the chute deflector if necessary.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation and then once every season or every 25 hours of use, whichever comes first.
Avoid snow that is too wet, and use a non-stick spray on the chute and auger before use to help prevent snow from sticking.
Drain the fuel tank, change the oil, clean the snow thrower, and inspect for any damaged parts that need replacement. Store in a dry location.
Turn off the engine and remove the spark plug wire for safety. Use a wrench to remove the broken shear pin and replace it with a new one, ensuring it is properly aligned.
Check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is not fouled, verify the ignition switch is on, and ensure the choke is in the correct position for starting.
Use a high-quality SAE 5W-30 oil for the best performance in cold temperatures.
Consider using tire chains or weights to improve traction on icy or slippery surfaces.
