To start the Poulan Pro 271491 Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the throttle is set to choke for a cold engine or half-throttle for a warm engine. Turn the ignition key to the start position until the engine fires.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, ensuring better flow. Turn off the engine and remove the ignition key. Place a pan under the drain plug, remove the plug, and let the oil drain completely. Replace the plug and refill with the recommended oil type and amount.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion or looseness. Ensure the fuel is fresh and the fuel filter isn't clogged. Inspect the spark plug for wear and replace if necessary. Verify that the PTO is disengaged and the seat switch is functioning.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, inspecting and cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, inspecting the blades for sharpness, and ensuring the tires are properly inflated. Lubricate all moving parts as per the manual's instructions.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the tractor, usually near the driver's seat. Move the lever to your desired cutting height, ensuring the deck is level. For best results, adjust on a flat surface.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades, debris caught in the deck, or loose engine mounting bolts. Check and clean the deck, inspect the blades for damage, and tighten any loose bolts.
To replace the drive belt, first disconnect the spark plug for safety. Remove the deck and locate the belt. Release the tensioner and remove the old belt. Install the new belt, ensuring it is correctly aligned with the pulleys, and reattach the deck.
If the blades don't engage, check the PTO switch and ensure it is operational. Inspect the belt for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Make sure the battery is fully charged, as low voltage can affect the PTO clutch.
To improve fuel efficiency, keep the blades sharp and the air filter clean. Regularly service the engine, ensuring it runs smoothly, and avoid mowing when the grass is wet or too tall, as this requires more power.
Always wear appropriate safety gear, including ear and eye protection. Clear the mowing area of debris before starting. Only operate the tractor in good weather conditions, and avoid steep slopes. Engage the parking brake when not in use.
